970:571 Industrial Ecology

Instructor: Clinton Andrews

This seminar course will explore the powerful industrial ecology metaphor, testing the blossoming field's claim that it is a framework for implementing sustainable development. We will evaluate current research and practice in industrial ecology at the macro level (materials and energy flows),meso level (morphology & structure), organizational level (how firms work), and micro level (individual motives and behaviors). We will also examine the implications for environmental planning and policy.  As a class project, we will perform an industrial ecological analysis of a specific place or enterprise.
