Smart Growth and Land Use Modeling |
|
The Center's work has concentrated on urban revitalization as a smart growth tool and an alternative to sprawled development that offers an opportunity for older communities to rebuild. We use GIS and other computerized modeling tools to study how regional and local land use planning can create vibrant neighborhoods with good schools and affordable housing, and put that knowledge to work in assisting large and small cities prepare for and understand the issues associated with redevelopment choices for their communities.
Analysis of Buildable Lands
The Center entered into a contract with the NJ Department of Community Affairs, Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) in May 2007. The purpose is to assist COAH in preparing an updated analysis of affordable housing needs in the State and provide a basis for ensuring that there are adequate undeveloped, unconstrained and buildable lands on which these units might be constructed.
