The Bureau of Government Research at Rutgers began in 1950. Beginning in 1959, training responsibilities became the responsibility of the Department of Government Services. The Bureau and the Department were consolidated in 1991, becoming the Center for Government Services. The Center continues to provide research, continuing education and technical assistance and carries on the public service tradition of the Bureau and Department.
