Read an op-ed piece in the Star-Ledger by Dr. Ernest Reock, director emeritus of the Center for Government Services, on the need to restructure the state income tax so that it can be an effective revenue generator.>> POWER POINT PRESENTATION ON IMMIGRATION AND MIGRATION TRENDS, ATLANTIC CITY, NOVEMBER 14, 2006 View a PowerPoint presentation on immigration and migration trends in New Jersey that was presented at the New Jersey State League of Municipalities conference in Atlantic City on November 14, 2006.>> MANDATORY PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD TRAINING The Center for Government Services has been certified as an “approved provider” of the Basic Course in Land Use Law and Planning by the Department of Community Affairs pursuant to P.L. 2005, c.133, the new mandatory planning and zoning board training law that was enacted last year. Those who serve on municipal planning boards and zoning boards of adjustment are now required to complete the course in order to remain on their boards. For further information about the requirements, go to www.state.nj.us/dca/osg The CGS course is a 10 hours in length, twice as long as the mandated length of five hours, but the Center also is developing a shorter course, which will be available in the spring of 2007. Check this webpage in the near future for specific course information. In developing the course, the Center worked closely withThe Municipal Land Use Center at The College of New Jersey, New Jersey Future, The New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association, and The New Jersey Association of Planning and Zoning Administrators. New PR Handbook NOW Available for Housing Authorities
CGS is pleased to announce the publication of The PR Perspective by Jill W. West. This public relations resource manual for housing authorities provides practical, step-by-step guidance on a wide variety of issues—from writing a basic press release to managing damage control on a negative story. The handbook was published by the Public Housing Authorities Directors Association with support from CGS and is available in New Jersey through the Center for $39.
