The Center conducts research projects
to develop materials useful as background information on New Jersey state
and local government; to suggest and evaluate ways to improve the performance
of government; to update the structure of government; and to develop study
materials useful in continuing education programs for government personnel.
The Center frequently undertakes research projects at the request of New
Jersey policy makers and governing officials in a variety of areas, such
as education, taxation, and government organizations. For example, a recent
study, supported by a grant from the Fund for New Jersey, was designed
to analyze the likely impacts of a revaluation on tax burdens in the City
of Newark. The Potential Impacts of Revaluation on Property Tax Burdens
in Newark, published in 1999, can be purchased through the Center’s
publication order department. Research projects
conducted by the Center have four major goals:
- To develop materials useful as background information
on New Jersey state and local government
-
To suggest and evaluate ways to
improve the performance of state and local government
-
To update the representative structure
of state and local government
-
To develop study materials useful
in continuing education programs for state and local government
personnel
Additionally, the Center produces various
publications, including the annual Legislative
District Data Book.
