In an effort to address the mobility needs of the region, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), with the assistance of the several municipalities, counties, private-sector stakeholders and state agency partners, seek to develop a shared vision for sustainable economic development and land use in the region that can support and be supported by a balanced program of multi- modal transportation investments. The project will also serve as a means of advancing NJDOT projects underway in the corridor and NJ TRANSIT’s Route 1 Bus Rapid Transit Study. In partnership with fifteen municipalities and three counties in the corridor between Trenton and New Brunswick, as well as other stakeholders, NJDOT will devise a regional strategy that is sustainable and consistent with Smart Growth outcomes.
Upon completion of the effort, NJDOT will advance a final set of recommendations that will serve as a specific set of actions in attaining sustainable smart growth objectives in the region. These include:
- Land use future map
- Transport future map
- Agenda of actionable next steps to move in the direction of the shared vision
- Docket of intractable policy issues and institutional impediments that need to be addressed in order to achieve the vision
