Andrea Hetling is a Professor at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University – New Brunswick. Dr. Hetling’s research focuses on the implementation of public policies designed to reduce economic and social inequities and build financial stability among families. She conducts applied, multi-methods policy research on federal, state, and local policies with a strong focus on social safety net, employment, and income support programs. She has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters as well as reports and manuscripts written for practitioners and policymakers. Before getting her Ph.D., Dr. Hetling worked as an administrator at a domestic violence agency in New York City, focusing on advocacy and development issues. She is a strong believer in the public impact of policy research and regularly works with community organizations to support their efforts to improve social service programs. Dr. Hetling is associate editor of Social Policy & Administration, the longest established journal in its field, and serves as a member of the policy council of the Association of Public Policy Analysis and Management.
